Responsibilities

Your Blueprint.

Service Boundaries.

Defining clear ownership and contracts between services as the platform adds new product surfaces.

Technical Standards.

Setting the patterns other engineers build against — API design, error handling, observability conventions.

Scalability Reviews.

Stress-testing proposed designs against realistic growth scenarios before they're built, not after they break.

Migration Planning.

Leading incremental migrations away from architectural dead ends without stopping feature work.

Requirements

The Profile.

Systems Thinking.

Experience designing distributed systems that other teams build on top of, not just within.

Trade-off Fluency.

Ability to articulate why a design choice is right for this stage of the company, not just in the abstract.

Communication.

Comfort writing and defending architecture decisions in a way both engineers and non-engineers can follow.

Battle Scars.

Having lived through at least one painful platform migration and learned what not to repeat.
